Matt Faulkner
Matt Faulkner is a custom tattoo artist specialising in large-scale black and grey work rooted in historical and mythological narrative. Originally from North London, Matt spent his early twenties immersed in the creative worlds of music and sound engineering, playing in metal bands and studying audio production — an influence that still resonates in the atmosphere and storytelling depth of his tattoo work today.
In November and December 2007, Matt completed his apprenticeship in Thailand, an experience that shaped both his technical foundations and artistic discipline. By May 2008, he had opened his own studio, beginning what would become a dedicated career focused on creating bespoke, meaningful tattoos for his clients.
Matt developed his signature black and grey style through years of designing fully custom pieces for a loyal local clientele. His work is defined by contrast, realism, and flow — evolving over time into ambitious large-scale compositions that tell powerful stories across the body. Themes often draw from history, mythology, and epic narrative, reflecting his long-standing interest in historical fiction authors such as Conn Iggulden and the dramatic, storytelling ethos found in the music of Iron Maiden.
In 2009, Matt began working at British tattoo conventions, expanding his reputation beyond his South Wales Studio. He later completed a short U.S. tour, working at the Green Bay and Boston tattoo conventions, further refining his craft and broadening his international experience.
Since 2002, Matt has been based in the beautiful and historic town of Llantwit Major in the Vale of Glamorgan, where he continues to create highly detailed, narrative-driven tattoos for clients seeking meaningful, large-scale work.
